Wipe Out with the Crystal Lake Strikers

Be prepared to get your groove on during today’s Barrington Fourth of July Parade.  You’ll probably notice your body start to move when you hear the Crystal Lake Strikers approaching from a distance.

Wipe Out with the Crystal Lake Strikers

This is the first year the Crystal Lake Strikers will be performing in Barrington’s 4th of July Parade. They’re a group of 17 drummers that plays cool cadences along with songs like “Wipe Out”, “Brick House”, “Funky Music” and “Let’s Get it Started”. They’re not your typical drum corps. They wear retro bowling uniforms, zebra-skin drums and spice things up with some signature dance moves. They must have some pretty hip stylists!  Check this video out for a preview, but note that they REALLY start to groove at about 45 seconds in. I’D JUMP OUT OF BED AHEAD OF SCHEDULE if my alarm clock played this song!

Ice House Mall Post Parade PartyThe parade is just the start of the holiday fun in downtown Barrington today. There is a post-parade party taking place at the Barrington Ice House Mall. You can visit with Elmo and friends, find free giveaways at Learning Express Toys and they’ll be grilling outside for lunch by 111 Grille!

And the Barrington Brat Tent will be hopping all day today with post-parade festivities, starting with a concert by the “Barrington Community Band” from 12-2PM.  I hear that this is an extra special performance by local musicians of all ages. They play beautiful patriotic tunes that draw a crowd of appreciative veterans every year.  Here’s the lineup for the rest of the day today at the Brat Tent:

    • Barrington Brat Tent Face Painting with Denise MilitoBarrington Commuinty Band: 12-2PM
    • Hands on Activities with Learning Express: 2-6PM
    • Face Art by Denise Milito: 2-8PM
    • Scales & Tales Traveling Zoo: 3-4PM
    • Replay– LIVE: 5-7:30PM

Cover tunes from Rock, Country and more

    • Way Past Curfew – LIVE: 8-11:30PMSongs from U2, The Beatles, Doobie Brothers, etc…

The Barrington Brat Tent festivities end today, but the tent will stay up for the mid-week “Community Talent Show” and the “Uncork Barrington” and “Barrington Brew Fest” events next weekend.

But if the parade and the Brat Tent are not your scene, there’s another fun event in Barrington today. The second annual “Art in the Park” show is taking place from 10AM – 5PM at Citizens Park.

“Art in the Park” is a FREE event hosted by the Barrington Cultural Arts Center and the Barrington Park District.  It’s an afternoon of art, food and entertainment in a beautiful park setting.  A variety of visual artists will have their works on display, including oils, mosaics and other media as well as live singer/songwriters and storytellers in stage. There will also be a Children’s Art Table where kids can express their talents. The hosts have encouraged artwork with a “Barrington theme” this year, so it’ll be fun to see the variety of artwork on display throughout the park. Citizens Park is at 511 Lake Zurich Road, at the intersection of Route 14 (just northwest of the Barrington Area Library). For more information visit BarringtonCulturalArtsCenter.org.
