There’s a very special and highly anticipated party happening in Barrington in just two weeks.  “The Lavender Ball” at the Barrington Hills Country Club will celebrate the ten year anniversary of Wellness Place.  Over the years, Wellness Place has provided counseling, education and support to countless cancer patients and their families.  The upcoming gala is one of their biggest fundraisers of the year and a great way to enjoy an elegant evening out in Barrington while helping a worthy cause.

Wellness’ gala events have helped the group raise over $1.7 Million to support cancer patients over the past ten years. The not-for-profit organization officially opened its doors back in September of 2000, thanks to the vision of two friends and cancer-survivors in Barrington. Over the years, Linda Murphy, Myrna Porter and their network of volunteers have helped tens of thousands of cancer patients and their families cope with the disease and explore options for treatment and recovery.

Linda Murphy says, “A cancer diagnosis is absolutely devastating. You’re in shock and you don’t know where to turn.” She says many of the patients helped by Wellness over the years have come back to volunteer for the group after treatment because they want to give back. “It’s a good feeling and it’s an atmosphere of optimism, hope and healing.” Linda says she sees great things for Wellness in the future, including more partnerships with physicians and programs that focus on cancer prevention. She emphasizes that Wellness does not charge for its programs, but they do rely on support from donors to keep their doors open.

The upcoming Lavender Ball is a great way to help this group continue to help others. It’s the night of Saturday, September, 11th. The price per guest is $200, the cocktail hour starts at 6:30, with a seated dinner at 7:30 followed by live auction, open bar and dancing.  We’re all welcome to register and attend the ball and you can view the actual invite by clicking HERE.  The Barrington Hills Country Club is at 300 W. County Line Road.  You can register for the Ball or learn more about Wellness at their website, WellnessPlace.org.
