Chessie's 111 Grille Barrington High School Homecoming

The countdown to Barrington’s Homecoming Weekend has begun! Be sure to check back tomorrow because I’ll have the full rundown of events planned for parade and game day this Saturday. But I wanted to be sure to let you know about a huge Homecoming party happening all day Saturday and hosted by two BHS grads who own Chessie’s 111 Grille at The Ice House Mall.

Chessie's 111 Grille Barrington High School Homecoming

It’s basically a big pre and post-party for Saturday’s Homecoming Parade and will take place in the restaurant’s parking lot at The Ice House Mall. There will be hundreds of Barrington High School students, alumni, their families, friends and neighbors there to celebrate.  Parking is free, so you can pull in for the parade and stay for the party.  And, just like last year, they’re going to be taking a big BHS alumni photo right at 12:15PM.

Did you know you can learn the techniques to break a board, Karate-style, in just fifteen minutes?  That’s what the owner of Tiger Martial Arts in Barrington plans to demonstrate at his studio this weekend.  Master David Garrison says it looks impressive, but it’s not hard. And he says the techniques he teaches could help save your life, “If you can break a board, you can take a guy out pretty easy if you hit him in the right spot.”

177. Art in the Barn at Good Shepherd Hospital

Art in the Barn Weekend at Good Shepherd Hospital

This is a big weekend for our friends up at Good Shepherd Hospital. They’re hosting their 36th annual “Art in the Barn” event on the hospital grounds from 10AM to 5PM on both Saturday and Sunday and they have a full schedule of art and entertainment planned, including live music, food and pony rides!

Art in the Barn Weekend at Good Shepherd Hospital

Live Music, Food and Art at Art in the Barn“Art in the Barn” began in 1974 when a group of ten women and local artists came up with the idea to help raise money to build the hospital here in Barrington. It started as a show with 30 artists, and this weekend, there will be about 180 artists displaying their works for sale and they’re expecting about 6,500 people to attend. There will be painters, jewelry-makers, sculptors, photographers, ceramics artists and woodworkers on hand, just to name a few. The art will be on display in barns that were used as food testing sites when the property was owned by Quaker Oats. Over the years, the annual juried art show has raised over $2.5 Million dollars for Good Shepherd Hospital. It’s a great way to spend a fall weekend in Barrington and support our local hospital at the same time.
