Since I started writing this blog on April first, there is one Barrington photographer whose images you’ve seen featured here more than any other.  His name is Bob Lee, and after he retired, he made a decision to use his photography in charitable ways.  If you’re looking for a photo of a non-profit or community event that has taken place or was planned in Barrington, he is the go-to guy.

Bob Lee is one of 30 local artists featuring their works at businesses throughout Barrington for this year’s United Way campaign which kicks off in Barrington today.

This year’s campaign is called “Sample the Arts” and it will culminate with a gala auction event at The Onion Pub on November 6th. Between now and then, you’ll notice the artists’ work on display throughout town. Bob Lee’s photography will be featured at Harris Bank.

From the coast of Maine to the hills of Barrington, Bob’s photographs are simply stunning. He captures light in such a way that, at first glance, some of his images look like paintings.

Whether he’s photographing Barrington landscapes or community events, beautiful scenes in nature or his grandsons’ football games, Bob possesses a great skill and a passion for capturing memories and moments.

Barrington Photographer, Bob Lee“By working with so many wonderful charities and people in the Barrington Area our lives have been deeply enriched. What a wonderful community it is… Photography has been a conduit to help us connect with not only wonderful people but also the magnificent beauty of natural surroundings. Photography encourages one to always be looking for the beauty in life – whether is is a smile or flower, a sunrise or sunset there is beauty everywhere.”

But his photography is just one of Bob Lee’s many claims to fame.  A few years ago, after he beat cancer, Bob rode his bicycle 6,500 miles across America for THREE REASONS.  They’re good ones and they’re just three more ways that Bob inspires by example.  You can read all about them on his website at 3Reasons.org.

In the coming weeks, it’ll be inspiring to see local artwork displayed throughout our community. But, most importantly, come out out to the kickoff party TONIGHT at the Ice House Mall!  It’s happening from 5-7PM  and it’s a great opportunity to preview the art, mingle with the artists and celebrate Barrington and our United Way.  They’re also going to be celebrating the one year anniversary of the Barrington Cultural Commission so it’ll be a really festive event.  Chessies/111 Grille will be serving hors d’oeuvres and offering a cash bar in the center of the mall where the gallery is.  The stores are open late, too, so it’ll be hopping!  In case you’re new to Barrington or are visiting from out of area, you’ll find The Ice House Mall at 200 Applebee Street in Barrington and you can learn more about the projects supported by the Barrington Area United Way on their website, BAUW.org.
