286. Train for a Triathlon with the Buehler YTri Club

1 min read

There’s something about the idea of participating in a triathlon that sounds so unattainable to me. The last time I ran a road race was about five years ago and it was only five miles. But my interest was piqued when I recently received an email about the YTri Club at the Buehler YMCA in Palatine. It’s a club for ANYONE interested in learning about or training for a triathlon race, regardless of experience.

The president of the Buehler YTri Club, Kristan Wagner, is encouraging anyone who might be interested to attend the club’s annual kickoff event this week. Kristan says joining YTri is a great way for experienced athletes to take their performance to the next level and she also stresses that beginners should not be intimidated! “This is a sport that anyone can do. We’ve had new members who could not swim participate in their first triathlon in less than a year.”

The club has 100 members, including people of all ages and abilities. Some members are training for the first race and others are experienced competitors preparing for Ironman events. Kristan says, “Training with a club gives you the knowledge and support you need to achieve your goals…Training is more fulfilling, it holds you accountable to the race date and it truly enhances your life.”  Sounds good to me!

The kickoff meeting is scheduled for this Thursday, January 13th, at 7PM in the State Room at the Buehler YMCA in Palatine. The address is 1400 W. Northwest Highway and the group has a great website where you’ll find a wealth of information at BuehlerYTri.org.

  1. Saw these guys at a couple triathlons I did last year–thanks for the info! I trained by myself for my 1st tri ever last year and thought it would have been MUCH nicer to have trained with a group instead!
