Did you know that the first annual “Barrington Snowman Day” is happening this upcoming Saturday?

Barrington Family Snowman Day Added to the 365 Barrington Community Calendar

St. Matthew Lutheran Church Minister, Sue Mullen, recently added the upcoming “Barrington Family Snowman Day” to the 365 Barrington Community Calendar. You’ll find her event by clicking HERE or visiting this link: http://365barrington.net/events/barringtn-family-snowman-day .

I gave Sue a call this afternoon to get a few more details on this first ever event.  She says St. Matthews is welcoming the community out to their huge back yard from 10AM until noon this Saturday, January 29th.  Sue says they hope the field behind the church will be covered with snowmen by the end of the event.  The church is providing twigs for arms, carrots for noses and charcoal for eyes, mouths and buttons.  But they’re asking the community to bring extra hats, gloves, scarves or mittens to help keep the frosty fleet warm.  All of these items will be donated to a clothing bank that helps families stay warm in the city of Chicago.

Sue says their fingers are crossed for snow, but if Mother Nature has different plans, they’ll still host the party indoors with crafts, hot chocolate, cookies and maybe a little basketball in St. Matthew’s gymnasium.  The purpose of the event?  “To let the community have some fun in our back yard.”  Sue says all are also welcome to their “Bring a Friend to Church” day coming up this Sunday, January 30th.  They’ll be offering tours of the church and a special speaker from the Stephen Ministry, a multi-denominational group that helps people who are grieving. You’ll find St. Matthews Lutheran Church at 720 Dundee Avenue in Barrington and you can learn more about the church at StMatthewBarrington.org.

Thanks for sharing the information about your event, Sue.  Many of the things I write about here come straight from the 365 Barrington Community Calendar.  I hope you’ll find it to be useful in both keeping track of and spreading the word about upcoming events happening in and around Barrington.
