Artists from all over the country are gearing up for the Memorial Day weekend art festival happening in Barrington this Saturday and Sunday, May 26th and 27th. 140 juried artists, representing all categories and price points, will be exhibiting along Cook and Station Streets in downtown Barrington in the community’s third annual event.
The FREE outdoor art fest runs both days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m and is packed with fun activities planned for the entire family…
Festival-goers will get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into making these masterpieces, with a select group of artists hosting interactive art demos in their booths throughout the weekend. The art festival will once again host a Youth Art Division, offering artists ages 18 and under the opportunity to showcase and sell their work. There will be two performance stages set up at the fest, featuring live music from Cirrus Falcon and Mark Adamczyk. There will also be a variety of street food vendors serving everything from cinnamon roasted nuts to funnel cakes to beverages. Produced by Amdur Productions, in partnership with the Village of Barrington and the Barrington Cultural Commission, this weekend’s event is the kickoff to art fest season and will draw thousands of visitors to downtown Barrington!

“Nature photography has been my passion since the beginning, but my portfolio has expanded over the years to include travel and blues music. As a travel journalist, now retired from the Chicago Tribune but still trekking on a freelance basis, I’ve photographed on all seven continents. I admit to a love affair with the American West and Southwest, but Antarctica without question is the most amazing place I’ve ever photographed.”
Amdur Says: “When capturing an image, photographer Phil Marty uses a variety of techniques and special lenses to isolate the subject. When printing the images on canvas he also wraps them around wooden stretcher bars to add the final touch.”

“Silversmithing is a dying craft. There has been a decline in the appreciation of hand-labor and the value of the true, one of a kind object. I am a traditionalist at heart—a lover of antiquities and of objects made with only modest tools and a human being’s hands. I strive to keep alive an understanding of and an appreciation for one of a kind, hand made objects. The inspiration for my work comes from several areas: the ceremonial objects unearthed from centuries long past; the ideas of family heirlooms and treasured objects; and the knowledge that objects made from metal last forever and will survive long after I am gone.”

The organizer behind this weekend’s Barrington Art Fest and the founder of Amdur Productions, Amy Amdur, says she’s especially excited about this weekend’s event because of the variety of art available.
