It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for us to share our top ten picks for fun things to do and upcoming events.  It’s a list we like to call “10 on Tuesday” and it’s our way of helping spread the word about the hot happenings here in Barrington.

We’re starting this week’s list with a great party happening this Saturday night. You know all those painted horse sculptures you’ve spotted around Barrington all summer long?

All of these horses will be auctioned off to benefit the Barrington area United Way at their Roundup II Gala Party and Auction this Saturday night. That’s just one of many great things to do coming up in Barrington. Here are more details and a look at our full “10 on Tuesday” list…

1.  Cheaper by the Dozen Fall Play at Station
When:  7 p.m. Thursday, October 11 through the 13th and 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, October 14th
Where:  Barrington Middle School Staion Campus
What:  Barrington Middle School Station Campus proudly presents Cheaper by the Dozen, a Comedy.
Cost:  Tickets are $12 for Adults and $9 for Children and Seniors and are available at the door.

2,  Swing Night with Center for Ballroom and Dance
When:
Friday, October 12th from 8 to 11 p.m.
Where:
The Millrose Restaurant at 45 South Barrington Road
What:
Center for Ballroom and Dance in Deer Park, The Millrose Restaurant and The Flat Cats swing band have joined forces to bring you a spectacular night of swing dancing! From 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Jonathan Spencer of CBD will teach a swing lesson, then enjoy open dancing with a live band (The Flat Cats) from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Organizers say t’s going to be a great time so be there or be square!

3.  Happy Wanderers German Band
When:  Friday, October 12th, from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Where:  Barrington Area Library Meeting Room
What:  Celebrate Oktoberfest “Second Friday’s” style at the Barrington Area Library! The Happy Wanderers are a traditional German band playing your favorites.  Before the concert, don’t miss the library’s Artist’s Reception featuring Jamilee Polson Lacy, a curator who will be discussing artworks that cross disciplines through using text.

4.  Stiletto March and Girls Night Out
When: Friday, October 12, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Where: L’Eiffel Bistrot at the Arboretum
What: Strap on your highest heels to shop, dine and join in celebrating breast cancer survivors and those who have lost the fight. Exclusive shopping offers, discounts, food and drinks will be available at participating retailers. A portion of each ticket goes to The Cancer Institute at The Alexian Brothers Health System.

5.  Roundup II Gala Party & Auction
When:  Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where:  The Barns of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital
What:  28 horse sculptures were designed by area artists and sponsored by local businesses to benefit community programs funded by the Barrington Area United Way.  All horses will be corralled for auction at the Round Up II Gala Party.  Enjoy food from California Pizza Kitchen, music from The Salt Creek Boys, an open bar and a great cause.
Cost:  $75 per ticket

6.  Tony Ocean Dinner Show at Chessie’s
When: 
Saturday, October 13, 2012 – from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Where: 
Chessie’s restaurant in the Ice House Mall
What: 
Enjoy a Tony Ocean performance during dinner at Chessie’s.  Tony Ocean’s style and song selection will take you back to the music of Sinatra, Martin, Davis, Darin, Tony Bennett, Tom Jones and others whose romantic songs and lyrics have affected so many of our lives through the years.   for reservations and information.

7.  12th Annual Scarecrow Festival
When:
Saturday, October 13, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Where: Memorial Park in downtown Barrington
What: Barrington’s Scarecrow Festival will feature pony rides, scarecrow, pumpkin and cookie decorating, games, inflatables and games for the kids. Bob the DJ will be on hand to delight the crowd with his special costume and favorite spooky songs. They’ll will also be grilling food available for purchase. Materials for scarecrows will be provided and festival goers can bring clothing and accessories to personalize their creations.

8.  Carnaval: An Evening in the Caribbean
When: Saturday, October 13th from 5:30 to 11 p.m.
Where: The Sanfilippo Estate in Barrington Hills
What: The Barrington Youth Dance Ensemble (BYDE) Auxiliary Board invites the community to their 2012 Gala Fundraiser, Carnaval: An Evening in the Caribbean. The evening will begin with docent led tours of the Sanfilippo family’s collection of antique music machines, followed by live and silent auctions, raffles and performances by BYDE and Cerqua Rivera Dance Theater dancers.

Cost:
The ticket price is $150 and proceeds will benefit BYDE’s arts education mission, their November/December 2012 production of The Nutcracker and their Spring 2013 production of Coppelia.

9.  30th Annual Barrington Area CROP Walk
When: Sunday, October 14th, 2012, Registration begins at 12:30 p.m.
Where: The Walk will begin and end this year at Atonement, 909 E. Main Street in Barrington
What: The Barrington Area CROP Hunger Walk is an annual community hunger education and fund raising event sponsored by Church World Service, an international ecumenical relief, development and refugee resettlement agency providing assistance in the United States and around the world. The WALK is supported by churches, schools, civic organizations, businesses and individuals in the Barrington area.

Twenty-five percent (25%) of all funds raised is allocated for local agencies that serve people in need of food.

10.  Get Your Groove On with Walk On
When: Friday, October 26th, 2012
Where: Biltmore Country Club – 160 Biltmore Dr. – North Barrington
What: Go back to the 70’s and get your disco groove-on for Walk On Farm at the Biltmore Country Club in North Barrington.  Enjoy music, dancing, food and silent auctions during the riding center’s major fundraiser of the year.  Walk On Farm provides equine assisted activities to people with physical, cognitive, social and emotional disabilities.
