Bright Barrington Traditions

‘Twas December first and cameras were flashing as Santa returned to eager crowds clapping. He came back to Barrington on a firetruckle. And, warmly, he greeted his fans with a chuckle.

The children were watching from inside and out. In hopes that Santa would give them a shout.

When out on Cook Street came the night’s main attraction, I dashed from my spot to get in on the action. Away to the firetruck I flew like a rocket, and I pulled my camera right out of my pocket.

With a little old passenger, so lively and quick. I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.

More rapid than eagles these families they came. As he rang his bell, they called him by name.

To the Santa house steps! To the seat that’s been waiting! Kids were lined up for blocks, anticipating.

His eyes how they twinkled!  His dimples, how merry!  For the first time our son didn’t think he was scary.

So we laughed when we saw that, in spite of ourselves. Then we headed on out with our posse of elves, found some cookies on Cook Street (Thanks, SweetPea Cakes)…

Carriage rides on Park…

And madrigals singing out into the dark…

The trolley was waiting to give people rides…

A quick family photo and we said our goodbyes…

We walked all the way home feeling merry and bright. Happy December to all and to all a good night!
