I love combining the sensations of sweet and savory in my recipes and, for Day 7 of our 12 Days of Recipes series, we have a great option for a holiday appetizer that includes the perfect pairing.

12 Days of Recipes - Day 7

Sweet and tart granny smith apples and rich savory flavorful cheese make a great pairing in this crustini appetizer.  You can use Brie in place of the Gorgonzola and butter with equally divine results.

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon garlic salt
6 ounces Gorgonzola cheese

2 apples, peeled and sliced thin (granny smith or your favorite variety)
2 tablespoons finely chopped walnuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Slice baguette about 1/2 inch thick. Brush toasts with olive oil, and sprinkle with garlic salt.  Toast for two minutes until slightly firm.
