It’s been a busy May for Heinen’s Grocery with the grand opening of their latest Chicagoland store in Glenview earlier this month plus two more Chicago suburban store openings planned before the end of 2014. After opening in Barrington in the summer of 2012, Heinen’s new Glenview location brings their total number of stores to 19. We recently caught up with Tom Heinen who says, much like the days after they opened in Barrington, the new Glenview store has been a big hit with shoppers. “Our opening weekend was very successful and we’ve had a nice flow of customers since we opened the doors.”
Their new location is just slightly larger than Barrington’s store and it’s located right in the heart of downtown Glenview. Tom says their Glenview shoppers have similar tastes to ours.
“As in Barrington, our prepared foods are very popular along with our produce, meat, deli and seafood. Our large wine and beer department always seems to be popular and of course the novelty of shopping with a glass of beer or wine always garners attention. Most encouraging is that we have seen customers shop the whole store and appreciate that we are a complete grocery store.”
We attended Heinen’s Grand Opening in Glenview earlier this month where dozens of shoppers lined up to be among the first inside. They officially opened the doors after a few welcoming words from Glenview’s Village President, James Patterson.
We were excited to see some familiar Barrington faces in the crowd at Heinen’s Glenview Grand Opening including former Heinen’s Barrington store manager Derek Bercheny (who will now be based at the new Glenview store), Barrington Village Marketing & Events Coordinator Anne Garrette and Village of Barrington Economic and Community Development Director, Peg Blanchard.
Peg says they really wanted to be there for the excitement of Heinen’s opening day in Glenview. “It’s exciting for us because Barrington was in on the ground level when Heinen’s decided to expand into our market. We feel like we developed strong relationships with the Heinen’s team as they were getting ready to open our Barrington store and we wanted to revisit them, see everyone and celebrate their opening in this second Chicagoland location.”
Heinen’s Cleveland-based grocery chain is expanding even further in the Chicago area in 2014. Following the opening of Heinen’s Grocery in Barrington, Illinois in August of 2012, Heinen’s new downtown Glenview location is the company’s 19th store. They’re also planning to open two additional stores at the former Dominick’s locations in Bannockburn and Lake Bluff, Illinois this year with their 22nd store to be opened in the historic Ameritrust Bank Building in downtown Cleveland.
