The Community Church of Barrington’s Cookie Walk dates back to about 1980 and the featured cookies are the work of many helping hands, including a core group of “baking ladies” who have been gathering in their kitchens and baking away for weeks.

Barrington food photographer Sally Roeckell and I visited with the baking ladies at work last December to share photos along with a few of the “cookie ladies'” favorite recipes this year.  Take a look at some of the delicious cookies that you’ll find at this weekend’s walk.

The ladies at the church hope to raise several thousand dollars during Saturday’s Cookie Walk. In February, they’ll select local causes to which they will donate all of the money raised.

Past recipients of Cookie Walk donations include Gigi’s Playhouse, the Barrington Township & F.I.S.H. food pantries, Chicago Childrens Advocacy Center, Hough Elementary School Christmas Gift Baskets, Lake County PADS Crisis Services, Samaritan Counseling Center of the Northwest Suburbs in Barrington, Women in Need Growing Stronger (WINGS) in Palatine, The Night Ministry in Chicago and humanitarian efforts in Kenya, Africa.

If you plan to attend the Cookie Walk, it’s a good idea to get their early because the cookies go fast!  Boxes cost $12 and you can fill them with as many variety of cookies as you’d like, while supplies last.

There will be dozens of varieties of cookies to choose from at this weekend’s walk.  To whet your appetite, we asked several of the “baking ladies” to share their favorite cookie recipes, starting with Jayne Majzan who’s the baker behind the popular Coconut Creme Cookies you’ll find at the Cookie Walk every year.  Stay tuned to 365Barrington.com in the coming days for a few favorite Cookie Walk recipes shared by Community Church of Barrington’s own Baking Ladies.

In addition to offering the cookies, they’ll also be raising funds by raffling off a quilt made by youth from the church along with three beautiful holiday centerpieces featuring Christmas greenery, ornaments and candy canes.

You’ll find the Community Church of Barrington and Saturday’s Cookie Walk at 407 S. Grove Avenue, you can CLICK HERE to find their Facebook page and you’ll find more information about the church on their website at CCBarrington.org.
