Since then, the Look Forward fundraising campaign to help fund the project has raised $20.5 million in charitable contributions from generous Barrington-area residents.

Following the lead of campaign co-chairs Paul and Barbara Hills, many Barrington-area philanthropists have made major charitable gifts to the Look Forward campaign in support of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital’s historic, campus-wide modernization project. “Nothing else we could do would have as much impact,” Paul says. “The hospital serves countless people, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new building will give the best clinicians the best place to practice healing.”

A substantial gift from Wayne and Nan Kocourek of Barrington Hills recently put the total funds raised at $20.5 million, though the campaign kicked off just a little more than a year ago at the 2013 groundbreaking. “It’s a project that inspires giving,” Wayne says. “Good Shepherd’s leaders are doing things that will enhance the hospital for physicians and for the community—but most importantly, for patients.”

Additional community members who have made significant gifts include Barney and Jamie Baxter, Kim Duchossois, Vince and Pat Foglia, the late Jim Lancaster, Frank and Inna Morgan, and George Yapp.

Yapp encourages his neighbors to pitch in to the ongoing campaign. “This project will benefit all of us by offering every patient spacious, private rooms; advanced operating suites; and convenient, one-stop outpatient services. I hope we can join together to support it and put this campaign over the top,” he says.

Project plans feature a new inpatient building on the north side of the campus to include medical-surgical floors, a dedicated orthopedics unit and an expanded intensive care unit—all with single-occupancy rooms.

While the entire $200-million modernization project will not be completed until summer 2017, milestones coming up at the end of 2015 include the final phase of a new diagnostic testing center and the opening of a state-of-the-art gastroenterology suite.

Additional major gifts are needed. To learn more about how you can help, please call the hospital’s VP of Development, Sue Abderholden, at 847.842.4026.
