112. Barrington Youth Dance Ensemble Announces Cast of Sleeping Beauty

The Barrington Youth Dance Ensemble (BYDE) has just announced the full casting for their upcoming performance of The Sleeping Beauty on June 12th and 13th at Barrington High School (616 W. Main Street).

This year’s cast will feature BYDE company dancers Mackenzie Jaekel of Lake Zurich as Princess Aurora and Megan Clement of Barrington as Princess Florine. With a cast of 100 dancers, the production will bring to life the enchanting story of Princess Aurora and her prince.

The drama and excitement of this classic tale is enhanced by the fluid pacing and continuing development of magical characters. They have even tailored the ballet to appeal to the attention span of the audience’s youngest members. Sleeping Beauty consists of court scenes, a beautiful princes, a handsome prince, good and bad fairies.

First performed in Russia in 1890, The Sleeping Beauty is a ballet that brings to life the eternally popular Tchaikovsky score and will wow both children and adults alike. This classical production featuring majestic sets and costumes is based on the original masterpiece, choreographed by Marius Petipa.

In a magical Fairy Kingdom, a Princess named Aurora was born to a wonderful King and Queen. The Kingdom’s Fairy of Protection, Lilac Fairy, and all of her maidens were invited to celebrate Princess Aurora’s birth, but in the midst of the excitement the royal family forgot to invite the wicked fairy, Carabosse. Although Carabosse is distraught by their neglect, she comes to the christening anyway…but with evil intentions in mind.

Once again, guest artists from National and Chicago regional dance companies will perform lead soloist roles and are joined by Barrington Dance Academy student dancers and Barrington Youth Dance Ensemble company members. The 2015 production features extraordinary costuming by Debra Schoell and Patricia Whitmore and set design by James Estes. The Sleeping Beauty is a must-see for all who love the art of classical ballet.

Celebrating 25 years as Barrington’s Premiere Dance Ensemble, BYDE is dedicated to preserving the art and integrity of high caliber classical ballet and dance for the enjoyment and cultural enrichment of Barrington and all Chicagoland residents. Students are coached by international dance artists, and are exposed to professional set, lighting, costume, and production crews during all performances.
