Mystery man on the road
Lake County road patrolman Leon Russell earned a Character Counts award from the Barrington Junior Women’s Club for his regular friendliness. Russell’s supervisor and an area runner spoke out about how his brightens many days. Learn more about Russell in this week’s paper.

New swim school
Foss Swim School is set to make a splash in the Arboretum of South Barrington this winter. The indoor swim facility will cater to technique classes, family swim hours and non-competitive swim meets. Foss and area swim parents shared their enthusiasm for the new pool with Barrington Suburban Life newspaper.

Home rule question
An advisory committee is recommending that the Barrington village board go ahead and put home rule up to a vote this November. Home rule communities have more flexibility and autonomy, committee members said. Read up on the full details of home rule in this week’s paper.

Pink for a cause
A national tour group stopped at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital last week to share their cause – touring the nation, visiting women battling cancer. The group of volunteers, which were all firefighters dressed in pink turnout gear, even went inside the hospital to give a teddy bear to a 10-year-old who was undergoing brain surgery. Pink fire trucks were on scene and Barrington Suburban Life snapped the photos.
