Since we recently moved to Barrington, we love finding hidden gems in the community. To kick off this Memorial Day weekend, we were so excited to do just that with Big Iron Horse Barbecue.

Located at 117 South Hough Street in Barrington, Big Iron Horse specializes in fusion-style barbecue, incorporating flavors and cooking techniques from the Southeast and Caribbean. From their to-die-for tacos, burgers, or gourmet salads, thereʼs something for everyone!

On top of that, they offer a extensive variety of local craft beer and wine. Their selection includes popular brews such as Revolution and Half Acre. If youʼre feeling adventurous, they even feature some new and up & coming local brews.

We had a wonderful time with owner, Scott Hansen. We were so impressed with the level of care he takes to ensure every aspect of his restaurant is spot on.

Each menu item is carefully crafted for flavor and unique to their authentic flair. Did we mention all of their smoked meat is smoked in house? It doesnʼt get any better than that!

Choosing favorites was almost impossible because we loved it all! The Fish Tacos (currently only available for dine-in on Fridays from noon to 8 p.m.) were beautifully bright and fresh.

You canʼt go wrong with the BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich. The smoked meat was perfectly tender and packed with flavor. Their house-made BBQ sauce blew it off the charts!

The Granny Apple Salad (with open flame grilled chicken) was to.die.for: the flavors were divine – we couldnʼt put it down.

After months of driving right by this place, weʼve learned in important lesson: Stop. Explore. You never know what you might discover. There are so many hidden gems right in our hometown of Barrington.

Also the home of Cooper’s Pizza, you’ll find Big Iron Horse Barbecue at 117 South Hough Street in Barrington. Check out their menus in advance at BigIronHorse.com and make it your next destination for date night or dinner with friends. We will definitely be back! If you stop by, be sure to mention Ben & Miranda from Modern Farmette sent you!
