Once a year in Barrington, the finest local chefs all come together in one place to serve up a special menu of featured dishes for diners to sample. It’s called the Barrington Taste Fest & Expo, it’s happening Thursday night, October 27th, at the Millrose Restaurant in South Barrington and tickets are selling fast, but still available.

The event is organized by the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce as a way to help the community get acquainted with some of the latest offerings made by local restaurants, caterers, bakeries, breweries and wine representatives.

71. Bust a Move for the Pink Glove Dance Competition

Pink Glove Dance Competition

It’s not every day that you see people dancing through the halls at Good Shepherd Hospital.  It’s not every day that you find hospital doctors, nurses and staff wearing pink gloves and feather boas to work.  But they’ve been up to something over at the hospital here in Barrington and, when I saw what it was, it gave me goosebumps.  It’s a video of about 100 Good Shepherd Hospital employees, wearing pink and dancing to Firework, one of my favorite Katy Perry songs. Who knew so many of our local healthcare providers double as dancing divas!?!

They created the video to win a dance competition and it’s a major feat in choreographed camaraderie executed by employees, men and women, from just about every department at the hospital.

From the hospital’s president, Karen Lambert, to its housekeepers, from its doctors to its paramedics, there’s no sign of stage fright over wearing wacky pink accessories while grooving to the beat.

They’re bringing out the boogie in hospital beds, at their desks and through the hospital halls.  NOW IT’S OUR TURN to help them dance their way to winning a top prize.  Read on to watch their video and cast your vote…

68. Spot the Scarecrow to Win a Sweet Prize

365 Barrington Where's the Scarecrow Contest

It’s a beautiful fall day, it’s Friday to boot and I’m in the mood for a contest! Who feels like spotting scarecrows this weekend? Businesses throughout Barrington have decorated their storefronts with scarecrows for the Village’s annual community scarecrow design competition and I’ve been out on the streets snapping photos. Today we have a winner from last week’s first ever 365 Barrington Spot the Scarecrow contest and we have another mystery scarecrow for you to identify. Do you know where this artsy scarecrow is chillin’ this fall?

I’m told that the hot pink flower pot will be a dead giveaway, but we’ll see.  If you can tell us what business this straw painter belongs to, you could be our next winner and we have a great prize for this week. But first, let’s talk about last week’s winner and the fireman scarecrow we featured. We had some great guesses and we drew our winner’s name today. We’ll reveal the winner after we take a look at the man behind the scarecrow. He’s Brian Long, the owner of Long and Company Jewelers at 105 E. Main Street.  Brian says he’s pretty proud of the store’s straw man this year who has been decked out in fireman gear, a tribute to the heroes of September 11th.

You’ll find Brian and Long and Company Jewelers right in the center of town, on the southeast corner of Route 59 (Hough Street) and Lake Cook Road (Main Street). He sells gorgeous jewelry, offers jewelry and watch repair, cleaning and appraisal services plus, he’s the exclusive Waterford Crystal retailer in town. The winner who correctly identified the scarecrow outside of Brian’s storefront wins $30 dollars worth of in-store services. It’ll come in handy because they’ll fix or clean your jewelry or put a new battery in your watch while you wait. The store has a great laid-back vibe, too, and was beautifully refurbished by the Longs before they opened for business back in 2006. In fact, as you’ll see by her guess, this week’s winner is already a big fan and her name is…

65. Help Good Shepherd Hospital at Art in the Barn

Art in the Barn

If you’ve ever made a trip to Good Shepherd Hospital for medical needs, planned or unplanned, this is one weekend where you can return to repay the favor. The 37th Annual Art in the Barn juried fine art show is happening this Saturday and Sunday, September 24th and 25th. Over 175 artists will be there to sell their creations and share their earnings to help fund hospital initiatives designed to keep us healthy.

A group of 10 women organized the first Art in the Barn with only 30 artists in 1974 to help raise money to build the hospital here in Barrington. The show has grown and, this weekend, they’re expecting up to 7,000 people to attend.

56. Get in on the New Barrington Dance Craze

Dancing in the Streets of Downtown Barrington

There’s a new community dance craze taking over the streets of Barrington. “Flash Mobs” have become the latest rage. If you watch Glee, follow YouTube or are a hip and happening reader of 365Barrington.com, I’m sure you know all about them ;).  For those of you who’d like a little background, Flash Mobs are “large groups of people who assemble suddenly in public and perform a dance or unusual act for a brief time, then disperse.” The performance is supposed to be a secret, but a little birdie has let me in on what could be Barrington’s next Flash Mob.

Dancing in the Streets of Downtown Barrington

Barrington’s last Cruise Night of the season is happening downtown on Cook Street tomorrow night, starting at 6:30. My source tells me that, if you’re there at around 6:45, you might just get Flash Mobbed, like this one that happened a couple of weeks ago…

Whether your kids are little like ours or in the midst of their teens, they’ll definitely walk away from this party armed with new skills to help keep them out of danger.

So get ready for some freshly popped kettle corn, the balloon man, the lemonade guy and the return of some of your favorite farmers.  Plus, prepare to meet some brand new vendors this year.  To get into the spirit of the season, I found some of my favorite farmers market photos taken by Barrington photographer, Anthony Tortoriello.
