This popular stop for Halloween pumpkins in October blooms with new life when Goebbert’s re-opens its doors each spring, bringing customers top quality flowers, produce and plantings to brighten our homes and gardens.

Getting the flowers from their farms to our homes is a team effort for the Goebbert family.  They’ve been in the farm market business since 1948, when George Goebbert started a roadside vegetable stand in Arlington Heights.

George’s son, Jim, expanded the business when he bought Goebbert’s 40-acre farm in South Barrington with his wife, Esther, in 1972.

Jim and Esther live nearby and are still very much a part of the family business, which is run today by two of their sons. Lee Goebbert manages the 40-acre South Barrington farm with his wife Diane.

Lloyd Goebbert and his wife, Terry, manage the family’s second property, a 400-acre working farm in Hampshire, Illinois, where they grow most of the flowers and produce available at the farm in South Barrington.

So when it comes to celebrating family, and mothers, the Goebberts work hard at creating experiences and memories.

Post 300 - Sue Murdock at Goebbert'sGoebbert’s Marketing and Communications Manager, Sue Murdock, says they have customers who have been visiting their South Barrington farm for many years on Mother’s Day.

“Every year they’ll bring their Mom to buy a rose bush or another favorite flower.  It’s tradition. That’s what Goebbert’s is about.  It’s about family and tradition and just being together.”

And, Sue adds, no matter what a customer needs, they can make it work.

“We have all different plant sizes.  All different containers.  For every budget.”

The minute you walk into Goebbert’s greenhouse, you’ll see an explosion of colors with the freshest of flowers and planters.  It’s a sight Diane Goebbert says is really unique.  “A lot of our plants are a one of a kind.  It’s a piece that we’ll put together and you can’t get that anywhere else.”

The biggest floral sellers are the hanging baskets.  You can purchase one you see or have one custom made.  Also popular are Goebbert’s ‘Grab-and-Go’ container gardens, which are plant and flower arrangements that you can either customize or find already made.

Jim Goebbert says their hope is that you’ll return with every season.  “A lot of what we do is allow customers to bring in their pots from last year, help them pick their flowers and we refill them.”  And Lee says the family is committed to offering special arrangements that you won’t find elsewhere.  “The plants that we grow, we focus on quality.  We believe our hanging baskets are nicer than what you can get at the big box stores.”

Goebbert’s also sells a variety of fruit and vegetables customers can plant in their gardens.  There are dozens of choices of peppers and tomatoes plus all of your herbs and spices.  They also sell trees and bushes and almost anything else you might need for your garden and home.

Esther Goebbert says the family is happy and honored to be part of so many seasonal family celebrations.  “When we meet someone and they find out we’re a Goebbert, they tell us they’ve been coming to our farm for years.  That just brings a lot of pleasure to us.  Knowing that we started something really good.  Family traditions, that’s what it’s all about.”
