Safety Town

Safety Town walk-in registration for Kindergarteners and first graders opens tomorrow morning from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at The Orchard Church, 1301 S. Grove Avenue in Barrington.  Run by the Barrington Junior Womens Club, Safety Town is a two-week educational summer program that teaches kids safety skills.  The setting is a permanent mini-town at the Orchard Church location that was built through community support back in 1997.  For this week’s Friday 5 list we’re sharing Five Reasons to Sign Up for Safety Town!

1. Hands-on Learning

This miniature town gives the children experience in using safety skills with hands-on activities and demonstrations, like learning how to stay safe while riding bikes and acting as pedestrians.

5. Volunteers in Action

All of the lessons are taught by camp directors and local middle and high-school volunteers with the help of local police and fire officials. They get the kids involved in demonstrations to help drive home the information kids need to avoid and react to safetu situations they may encounter.
