Nets swished and buzzers sounded as Code Red hosted their annual 3×3 charity basketball tournament. Code Red is a club at Barrington High School that focuses on serving the community through fundraising and volunteering.
High school students of all grades and skill levels were eligible to compete in Saturday’s tournament, and the extensive turnout provided for an exuberant and vying evening of basketball. Students formed teams of 3-5 players, created unique names, themes and uniforms, then brought their best skills and grit. Members of the Barrington Boy’s Varsity Basketball Team generously donated their time by officiating the games.
Besides the organized bracket, there were a 3-point contest, food and drinks. For the 3-point shootout, players and spectators could donate $1 and shoot 9 shots from beyond the arc. The winner of the three point shootout was Senior, Connor O’Keefe, who made 6 shots and won a gift certificate to Noodles and Company. The Pizza Factory in downtown Barrington generously donated 10 pizzas for the event so players were able to stay fueled.
The final championship matchup was between the Chicago Sky and Burn Baby Burns. As the clock reached 0:00, and the buzzer sounded, the Chicago Sky found themselves hoisting a impressive wooden trophy designed and constructed by Code Red Club member, Eddy Ionescu.
All in all, the annual charity basketball tournament was a successful night, filled with friendly competition, sportsmanship and athleticism. Code Red raised hundreds of dollars, and plans on using the money for future donations and charitable causes.
