Now here’s a great way to celebrate Earth Week! All are welcome to join Smart Farm of Barrington volunteers on Saturday as they clean up our community gardens for spring to grow produce for local food pantries. Want to learn a thing or two about gardening? Pitch in Saturday and you’ll be working alongside some of Barrington’s most knowledgeable gardeners!

Smart Farm of Barrington

Smart Farm’s spring clean up is happening from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 23rd, at the hoop house on the grounds of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital (450 IL Hwy 22).

They’ll be prepping the garden to get ready to grow veggies for the community and need help cleaning the hoop, building new compost bins, adding composts to the gardens and so much more. And they could use our help!

If you can’t make the April 23rd cleanup, there’s another one scheduled for Saturday, May 7th, at the same time and place. CLICK HERE to sign up and see a list of upcoming Smart Farm volunteer opportunities and hope to see you at the garden!

Smart Farm LogoCreated in 2008, the Smart Farm is an educational gardening initiative in Barrington. Volunteers tend to their community gardens on the Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital grounds and at Ron Beese Park and give 100% of their produce to local food pantries.  Adults, children, and students who participate learn about our agricultural heritage, organic gardening, the slow food movement and best practices for living “green,” sustainable lives.
