Over 270 people attended Fellowship Housing’s Silver Gala, their 9th annual event which also marked the organization’s 25th anniversary on Saturday night. Guests gathered at the Chicago Marriott Northwest in Hoffman Estates to celebrate and support Fellowship Housing’s efforts to empower single moms who are either homeless or one small crisis away from homelessness.

In addition to cocktails, dinner, live music, dancing and a silent auction, this year’s gala featured Keynote Speaker, Shauna Niequist. The author of Cold Tangerines, BittersweetBread & Wine, and a 365-day devotional called Savor, Shauna’s cooking club recently prepared dinner for a group of moms who graduated from Fellowship Housing’s program. Here’s some of what Shauna has shared about that experience…

Shauna Niequiest - Square

“The whole point of the evening was celebration, because these three amazing women were graduating from the Fellowship Housing program. They’d bought homes or moved into rental housing with good schools for their kids. They’d learned important relational skills and budgeting skills. They’d worked so incredibly hard to make a better life for their kids, and that night, we celebrated their accomplishment…”

“These women are warriors. They’re strong, and they’re brave… And Fellowship Housing is the tool that allowed these women and their children to thrive, to change their lives.”

The single moms at Fellowship Housing commit to an intensive two-year program that takes them from the verge of homelessness to being financially stable, independent and confident. Their actions not only set them up for success, but they have the lasting potential to create a legacy of hope for their family– impacting generations.

Fellowship Housing - Moms

Founded 25 years ago by four Barrington area couples, Fellowship Housing has served more than 700 moms and children. Funds raised at Saturday’s Silver Gala will support the organization’s mission, which is to demonstrate Christ-like love by serving single moms through a two-year transitional housing program that focuses on accountability and a path to independence.
