In the Village of Barrington, incumbent Karen Darch is being challenged, for a second time, by Mike Kozel who is running for Barrington Village President. If elected, Mike promises to deliver “the change that Barrington needs”. He is focused on efforts to reduce property taxes, protect home values and develop downtown and commercial districts.
Mike Kozel’s supporters say it’s time for new leadership in the Village of Barrington to make the community more business-friendly and fill-up vacant storefronts. Under his leadership, Mike says he will work to reduce debt. He also says he’ll work to implement term limits for elected officials.
A building contractor and business owner, Mike is also father to two grown sons who both went through the Barrington 220 school system. Mike has served as a past member of the Rotary, youth baseball coach and as volunteer for events such as the 4th of July Parade and Barrington Brew Fest. Mike actively attends local events throughout the year, including Village of Barrington board meetings.

How would you summarize your vision for the Village of Barrington?
REDUCING HIGH PROPERTY TAXES
The best way to lower property taxes is to bring new businesses and sales tax revenues. Economic incentives will attract quality companies bringing new revenues.
PROTECTING HOME VALUES
Barrington’s high property taxes are pushing homeowners out and homes values down. We need to protect our investments by improving infrastructure, recreational opportunities and marketing our community to attract new families.
DEVELOPING OUR DOWNTOWN & COMMERCIAL DISTRICTS
My plan revitalizes downtown with upscale condos for downsizing seniors, professionals and commuters using the Metra. New stores, trendy restaurants and vibrant commercial districts will breathe a breath of fresh air into our community.
