The husband and wife entrepreneurs behind Purple Me Green, a science store on wheels, have won The Arboretum of South Barrington’s first ever Battle of the Pop-Up Challenge. Valued at up to $25,000, their prize is a package which includes a rent-free space at The Arboretum of South Barrington for six months, signage, visual merchandising support and store fixtures.

Purple Me Green The Science Store provides science toys and eco-friendly products in a big purple truck. The business is designed for interactive, S.T.E.M.-based, age-appropriate learning and fun. Topics include chemistry, biology, engineering, math, physics and more.

With their Battle of the Pop-Up Prize, this November the owners will open their first storefront at the South Barrington center where they will also offer science parties, classes and and fun for groups. They’ve already scheduled their grand opening festivities featuring activities, deals & more between November 1-4th.

“We are so happy and thankful to be chosen for such a wonderful opportunity,” said Mary Stupen, who co-owns the business with her husband Fred Stupen. “We can’t wait to meet new customers and provide a positive, fun and educational science experience for shoppers and visitors.”

The Stupens, who have lived in Palatine for 17 years, have been selling science toys and eco-friendly products out of a purple RV truck. Products include hydro rockets, bubble gum-making kits, bamboo toothbrushes and even recycled crayons. They launched their business in 2016 and have since sold their products at farmers markets, food truck fests, family events and green fairs. This will be their first brick-and-mortar location.

“This was our first Battle of the Pop-Up Challenge, and it was such a thrill to choose Purple Me Green The Science Store as the winner,” said Cory Born, general manager at The Arboretum of South Barrington. “They are so unique and fun. We know our customers are going to love what they have to offer.”

Purple Me Green The Science Store opens at The Arboretum of South Barrington between Francesca’s and Evereve by November 1, 2018.
