Barrington Area Volunteer Connection (BAVC) has worked with both nonprofits and volunteers over the years and seen how volunteering can positively impact both. Nonprofits rely on volunteers to help manage programs and operations, to serve as advocates in the community, to provide leadership & board support, and with fundraising assistance.
As we head into November and the focus turns toward the Thanksgiving holiday, it’s natural to think about the things we can be thankful for so we asked a few of our most active nonprofits in the area about why they are thankful for volunteers:
Allison Frederick – Administrative Director, Citizens for Conservation
“Citizens for Conservation relies on the strength of the Barrington community, and BAVC has been an essential bridge in helping us connect with volunteers who power our special events like the native plant sales. Their platform consistently brings us dedicated neighbors who make our work possible.”

Amy Seul – Social Services Manager, Bacoa – Barrington Area Council on Aging
“Bacoa simply could not function without our many volunteers. Our volunteers help with events & fundraisers, Bingo & Lunch, Meals with Wheels, “A Day Out” memory program, tax preparation (AARP), all sorts of office duties, SHIP (Medicare counseling), and much more. Thanksgiving is a great time to say THANK YOU and express our gratitude for everything our volunteers do to help keep us up and running year-round! Whether it’s one-time assistance or ongoing help, we certainly appreciate it all.”

Susan A. McConnell, DSW, MBA – Founder and Executive Director, Let It Be Us
“We are very thankful for the Governance Chair of our Board of Directors, Robin Kelleher, who volunteers for Let It Be Us. Robin is a champion for children and brings her expertise as an attorney to our important work as a licensed Illinois Child Welfare Agency headquartered in Barrington and serving Illinois statewide. Robin is seen here donating toys for our annual Toy Drive which takes place this year on December 10 and 11 at Barrington’s White House! All toys are donated to our most vulnerable children in foster care.”
