Another year has gone by and the Barrington Area Volunteer Connection (BAVC) continues to be an online resource where residents to find volunteer opportunities to get involved. BAVC has 2,100+ Volunteers engaged on our Get Connected platform and that number continues to grow each month! Together our volunteers have provided thousands of volunteer hours which help the mission and services of 100 local nonprofits to continue.
As you look toward 2026, consider getting involved with one of the local charities on our platform. Below are just a few positions that provide assistance to kids and families, but BAVC has many more nonprofits as well as available resources on our platform
GiGi’s Playhouse – Tutors Needed!
GiGi’s Playhouse has made a commitment to changing lives and providing hope through the consistent delivery of FREE educational, therapeutic, and career development programs for individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and the community.
Have an extra hour in the week? Tutor an individual with Down syndrome in math or literacy. No teaching experience necessary, training provided. APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN! Spring session runs January 19th-May 23rd. Tutors must be at least 16 years old.

The Bridge Youth & Family Services – Buddies & Mentors Needed!
The Bridge has been based in Palatine since 1965 helping kids and families achieve social and emotional health by providing mental health counseling, crisis intervention, and youth mentoring services. Services are for all area families, regardless of income or insurance status.
The Bridge is looking for both Teen Mentors for kids ages 12 – 18 years old and Bridge Buddies to help provide support, guidance, goal setting and be a positive influence on kids in their program.

Little City – Various Volunteer Roles Available!
Little City is a vital, vibrant community offering a comprehensive scope of services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Providing a therapeutic community approach, Little City continues to guide programs and services for children and adults of all ages, enabling Little City to create hope, change lives and challenge the limits placed on individuals with disabilities.

Barrington Area Volunteer Connection (BAVC)‘s goal is to bring all 100+ Barrington area nonprofits, churches and service organizations in a free & easy to use database so that volunteers can easily find opportunities. The foundation of BAVC is a volunteer match platform called Get Connected which serves as a clearinghouse to bring together organizations, volunteers, and collaborators to match volunteer interests with nonprofits needing assistance.
