OneLife Kitchen Finds Sweet Spot with Cooking Classes & Culinary Events

Home Newsroom OneLife Kitchen Finds Sweet Spot with Cooking Classes & Culinary Events

Nearly six months after opening at the Foundry of Barrington, the owner of OneLife Kitchen says her business is hitting its stride with a thoughtful blend of cooking classes & private events filling up their calendar. Founder, Lauren Brynjelsen says the recreational kitchen and cooking studio has seen a record number of events to kick off 2018. “From birthday bashes to moms’ nights out to corporate dinner parties, private dinners, kids cooking classes and even a baby shower, it’s been a blessing to welcome so many new guests into our kitchen.”

Lauren opened OneLife Kitchen over Labor Day Weekend to give people a new place to connect, face-to-face, and enjoy good company over great food. She says the level of early interest speaks volumes about what people are missing in today’s world of mobile phones, quick texts and the lure of social media. “It tells me that people want to spend more time with their friends,” Lauren says. “It shows that we are craving that social connection with the people we love and care about.”

OneLife’s classes and private cooking demonstrations feature a growing list of both professional chef and passionate home cook instructors sharing various areas of culinary expertise. Lauren says OneLife’s goal is to help nourish the body, mind and soul with nutritious food and cooking as conduits for connection. “All we get is one life. We want to help make that one life the best it can be.”

A place to learn, feast and share, Lauren says OneLife Kitchen is a little refuge from the outside world. “Come and be with your friends, enjoy a unique experience and get out of the house for an evening. We make it hassle free dining every single time. You’ll walk away with new recipes and you don’t have to clean up the mess.”

When we hosted our daughter’s 9th birthday at OneLife Kitchen, the best part was that I was free to enjoy our guests. Lauren’s team took care of decorations, ingredients, recipe demonstrations and the cleanup. The girls decorated cookies, made pizza, enjoyed their lunch, cake and each other’s company. I didn’t have to lift a finger!

OneLife Kitchen works to keep classes and dinners more intimate, with space for about 20 people. Cocktail parties and other events at OneLife can accommodate up to about 50 guests.

Whether you come for a class or to enjoy a meal with friends, Lauren says their goal is that you walk out of OneLife able to replicate new recipes at home. “When you’re around your friends at the dinner table enjoying good food, good wine and good company, that’s what life is all about.”

“So, how can we humanize who we are addressing and make sure that people have proper access to mental health care? How can we use what we know to change how we talk about mental health? How can changing the narrative impact the reality?

Open dialogue is only helpful if we can share the truth. We can start talking about the reality of depression as it is, a legitimate medical condition that causes sadness, loss of interest and potentially feeling as if life is not worth living. It is a condition, not a weakness, that typically requires long-term mental health treatment.”
