All hospitals will host a moment of silence and illuminate hospitals in blue light

Advocate Aurora Health – along with other health systems across the nation – will join President-elect Joe Biden in a national remembrance ceremony on Tues., Jan. 19 at 4:30 p.m. local time to honor American lives affected by COVID-19 and to express heartfelt gratitude for all health care heroes. As part of the national moment of unity and remembrance, all Advocate Aurora hospitals, including Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, will be illuminated blue and participate in a moment of silence for 19 seconds.

“We are joining in this national ceremony to honor those who left us much too soon,” says Reverend Kathie Bender Schwich, chief spiritual officer at Advocate Aurora Health. “We offer our prayers for the loved ones who grieve their loss, for survivors as they continue on their healing journey and for our health care workers whose compassionate care and heroic efforts give us comfort and hope.”

Since May 2020, all Advocate Aurora Health hospitals have paused on the 19th day of each month at 10:19 a.m. to observe a moment of silence for 19 seconds. In November, each hospital across the Advocate Aurora system installed its own permanent and unique healing garden or a marker to honor patients, families and communities who fought and are still fighting COVID-19. The newly dedicated spaces serve as a tranquil place year-round where patients, visitors and team members can come to be strengthened, seek courage, and find peace.
