In a very exciting, emotional and down-to-the-minute match, the Barrington Broncos beat the Schaumburg Saxons Saturday, winning the homecoming game 34-32. The teams 6-and-0 UNDEFEATED season record has them positioned to push for a league championship in the coming weeks. Could the Broncos’ winning streak be traced to a dramatic locker room encounter with their coach at the start of the season?

Barrington High School’s own student film department, 238 Studios, caught that locker room session on camera.  They’ve been busy filming and editing dramatic and inspirationally charged team videos that look like they belong on the big screen. This one was edited at the start of the season before the home opener against Libertyville, and takes us inside the Broncos locker room as coach Joe Sanchez gets down to the “business of winning”.

Saturdays game was particularly emotional for the team, less than a week after a junior defensive back’s father died suddenly of a heart attack. I’m told he was a really great dad who was very involved with supporting Broncos football, and it’s a loss that hit hard. The team also had two key players out with injuries this week and Mary Kay Bolger, the mother of offensive team captain, Pat Bolger, says this win was a big one for her son and his teammates. “It’s living the dream. This is what you work for and what you put in your time for. He works very hard in the off-season and it’s paying off.” For highlights from this action-packed season, just take a look at 238 Studios’ recap of the first five games.

The Broncos qualified for the state playoffs with last week’s win and there are three more games in the regular season. The team plays Hoffman Estates away next Friday night (October 8th) at 7:30PM, they play Fremd away the following Friday (October 15) at 7:30PM and then they come home to play Palatine for “Senior Night” on Friday, October 22nd, at 7:30. The playoffs begin after the regular season ends, with the state championship the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
