105. Warm Up at the Winter Wine Walk

Home Newsroom 105. Warm Up at the Winter Wine Walk

Nothing takes the chill out of a cold winter day like an enticing glass of wine with your name on it. To help us fight the winter blues with some reds and some whites, a group of downtown Barrington businesses is inviting us to a Winter Wine Walk this Saturday, March 3rd, from 2 to 6 p.m.

Participating merchants will be all set up for you to shop, sip, nibble and then stay for dinner in downtown Barrington this Saturday. The Park Avenue Restaurant and Wine Bar will be serving up their signature sampling of wines by the glass or bottle during the event accompanied by some of the best advice you’ll find on the subject of wine.  The Park Avenue will also be providing samples of the season’s “hottest” wines at at participating merchant locations which include Mia Sorella, Urban Flair, Acacia Organics, Barrington Flower Shop, Grassroots, and The Blue House.  The day includes raffles, specials and some great wine.  They’ll also be offering wine “maps” at all locations so it’ll be a great way to taste and learn about some of the top selling wines in Barrington.

For more details about the participating merchants, you’ll find descriptions, addresses and website links in the list below.  But first, to help you map out your Winter Wine Walk, check out this very jazzy video showcasing the featured hosts…

Park Avenue Restaurant and Wine Bar – 205 Park Avenue – ParkAvenueWineBar.com
The Park Avenue Wine Bar is a distinctive destination for wine enthusiasts in Barrington and the Chicagoland area. Park Avenue features wines and other libations in a chic, comfortable bar setting. We feature 25 wines by the glass, and of course peruse our list of over 70 wines by the bottle. A wide array of beer, cocktails and after dinner drinks is also available along with a full food menu for lunch and dinner.

Mia Sorella – 104 S. Cook Street – Mia-Sorella.com
Owned by two local sisters, Mia Sorella (Translation:  “My Sister”) is a “…get-away in the heart of downtown Barrington. We are a full service salon, spa, and boutique all under one roof. Our salon offers the latest in color and styles making sure every client leaves feeling beautiful.  Along side our salon and spa is our boutique filled with the latest fashions.  We carry everything from trendy dresses by Theme to premium Adriano Goldschmied denim and amazing tops by Language and SweetPea (just to name a few!).”

Urban Flair – 104 S. Cook Street – ShopUrbanFlair.com
Right next door to Mia Sorella, Urban Flair is a specialty boutique that offers unique and stunning jewelry along with chic and stylish handbags & accessories for women.  The owner, Judy Benkendorf, says, “I am proud to feature the work of both emerging and accomplished designers.”

Acacia Organics – 100 E. Station Street – AcaciaOrganics.com
Two friends, a registered nurse and nutritional consultant, opened Acacia Organics in Barrington two years ago to offer an alternative to many of the manistream products on the market that expose us to toxic chemicals.  In their store, you’ll find a great variety of household cleaners, skincare products, cosmetics, nutritional supplements, foods and more that are natural, healthy and chemical-free.

Barrington Flower Shop – 201 S. Cook Street – BarringtonFlowerShop.com
The Barrington Flower Shop was established in 1988 on the corner of Cook and Station streets in a building built in 1872, the oldest continually operated commercial building in Barrington. Their floral designers are very creative, up-to-date on the latest trends and always find elegant ways to make everyday flowers extraordinary.

Grassroots – 205 S. Cook Street – GrassRootsBarrington.com
Grassroots is your hometown store. They carry apparel for the entire family as well as everyday items for the household. Whether you need some new clothing, a new skateboard or just a refreshment, you’ll find great choices at Grassroots.  To get a feeling for the store’s vibe, check out the music playing in the background when you visit their website at GrassRootsBarrington.com.

The Blue House – 205 S. Cook Street – Check out their Facebook page by clicking HERE.
The Blue House is a gift shop and gallery including fair trade, local artists, equestrian items, and home decor. They have Fair Trade jewelry, purses, kids items, accessories, scarves, purses, and decorative items. You can find artists work from Lake Zurich, Algonquin, Elk Grove Village and other surrounding areas and their equestrian room features unique gifts, paintings, prints and something for just about every horse lover out there!

I can’t wait to savor the flavors and hope to see you there!

Happy International Women’s Day to all women who live with, or care for someone with, mental illness. According to NAMI, “1 in 8 women experiences depression in their lifetime; twice the rate as men, regardless of race or ethnic background.” Furthermore, “some experiences are unique to women, including post-partum changes, infertility, and hormonal fluctuations throughout their lives." Access to mental health care is critically important, as shown during COVID-19, as well as the equality of access to it.
