There’s a great list of things to do in Barrington in the coming days, starting with the highly anticipated, 26th annual Grove Avenue Elementary School Carnival which begins tonight and runs through Sunday!
The Grove School fundraiser is an old-fashioned carnival on the school property, with rides, games, live music, cotton candy and lots of other food. Here are more details about the Carnival and several other fun events happening throughout the Barrington area..
Grove School Carnival
The Grove Ave Carnival is the school’s largest fundraiser of the year and is possible due to the help of hundreds of parent volunteers who take part.
You’ll find traditional carnival rides, games and food. Plus a Cutest Dog Contest on Saturday, Cake Walks, Bingo and Live Bands throughout the weekend.
Carnival hours are 5 to 10 p.m. tonight, Friday, September 14th, from noon to 10 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, September 15th and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, September 16th. CLICK HERE for more details.
Harvest Time Harmonies Free Library Concert
Vocalist and guitar player Pat Gaughan is well-known on the folk circuit for her intricate playing and rich singing voice. Add multi-talented instrumentalist L.J. Slavin to the mix and you’ve got the perfect evening of warm, authentic folk tunes, just right as we ease into the autumn season.
They’re performing together in a free concert, starting at 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, September 14th. The concert is free but please register at balibrary.org or call the library at 847-382-1300 to guarantee a seat. Tonight’s concert is part of the library’s Second Fridays concert series, a Barrington tradition for 18 years.
ARTumn Harvest
ARTumn Harvest is a fall art festival happening from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday & Sunday, September 15th and 16th. The fest, which kicks off at the Gazebo tomorrow morning, will feature fine art from artists across the country, plus an interactive kids’ art area AND live entertainment!
You’ll find juried artists displaying their works in sculpture, painting, photography, fiber, jewelry, ceramics, glass and more. There will also be food available from Biaggi’s, Red Robin and Tokio Sake. For more information, visit DeerParkTownCenter.com.
Run the Shores at Lake Barrington
The Lake Barrington Shores Community Homeowners Association and the Village of Lake Barrington are co-hosting the 2nd annual 5K race and 1 mile fun run/walk on Saturday, September 15 to benefit the Cuba Township Food Pantry.
Run the Shores at Lake Barrington will begin at the Market Place Shopping Center located at Rt. 59 and Kelsey Road. You can register for the run on-site between 7 and 7:45 a.m. with the race starting at 8. Runners and walkers will wind their way around Lake Barrington’s namesake lake and throughout Lake Barrington Shore’s picturesque community.
Run the Shores at Lake Barrington t-shirts will be provided to all participants and medals with the race logo will be awarded to the top runners and walkers. A raffle will be held following the race with prizes from area businesses. Light refreshments will be provided. The Registration fee is $20 for adults ($25 on race day) and $7 for children 12 and under. Rain date is set for Sunday, September 16.
Meet a California Cattleman at Heinen’s Fine Foods
The new Heinen’s grocery store in Barrington is known for offering some of the finest food products from quality sources. This weekend, the store is hosting one of the ranchers that supplies Heinen’s Own Premium Beef and the distributor that supplies their direct, overnight fish and seafood from Alaska.
Jesse and Greg will be in store Friday from 12pm-4pm, Saturday from 11am-6pm and Sunday from 11am-2pm, visiting with shoppers and answering questions about the food they provide. For more information about this and other upcoming events at the store, visit Heinen’sBarrington.com.
Art in the Barn
The 38th annual Art in the Barn, Juried art show, takes place Next Saturday and Sunday, September 22nd and 23rd on the grounds of Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington (450 West Route 22) from 10-5 both days. Parking is free and admission is only $5.00.
This is a fun event for all with pony rides and an art tent for kids, entertainment and wonderful food. All art is for sale and includes all media and price ranges. Art in the barn has become a real “kickoff” to the fall season. This year new food vendors will be in attendance selling ice cream, gourmet cupcakes, and giant turkey legs.
