How Teachers Spend a Snow Day - Photographed by Patti Haney

We just closed the voting minutes ago and have a winner to announce in our 2013 Snow Day Photo Contest from last week!  Her name is Patti Haney, she’s a Barrington 220 teacher at Hough Street Elementary School and the photo she took with another teacher in the district won the grand prize! I love how this image captures the essence of a snow day, an unexpected gift of time to spend cozied up by the fire or breathing in the crisp, cold scent of freshly fallen snow. I can almost hear these snowshoes crunching!

Here is Patti’s caption for the photo:

“Citizen’s Park. Haney & Hanley, both teachers in 220, enjoying the outdoors. Truly a treat!”

It was truly a treat to see a teacher’s take on last week’s snow day.  And we loved seeing every one of the snowy images entered in our contest.

Also receiving many votes was this one, submitted by Lisa Zinck, who captioned her image by writing, “Winter’s last fling. (hopefully)  Kelly and Jackson Zinck (Deer Park) and friends Angelina, Elizabeth and Adam.”  Isn’t this what a snow day is all about?

And I loved the serene feel of Melissa Allen’s photo, called Winter Scene on Old Barrington Road.  So beautiful!

The first entry we received in our contest last week is another one I have to highlight because it depicts a cozy scene inside the Dunn house on the morning of the snow day. Lynn Dunn took this photo of her kids and wrote, “Still in their PJ’s, turned the chairs around and started sketching the falling snow. Inspired by the wonderful art teachers at Hough Street School!!!”

Students, teachers and their parents enjoyed an unplanned day at home last week and we’re so happy you shared your images. I’ll be in touch this week, Patti, to get you your prize, which is a gift card to purchase goodies at Heinen’s Fine Foods, Barrington’s awesome new grocery store.

Thanks to you all for entering our contest and stay tuned! Our annual Spring Break photo contest is right around the corner and we can’t wait to see glimpses of sunshine on the other side of your lenses soon.

In the meantime, here’s one last look at all of the entries from this year’s Snow Day Photo Contest here at 365Barrington.com.

  1. What a great idea to highlight a Snow Day. The pictures ran the gamut: from the sublime – (Melissa’s ?? Photo of Old Barrington Road – to the frolicsome – Teachers Haney&Hanley’s snow covered boots. Thanks!

    • Thanks for sponsoring such a fun contest. My friend Pam and I lived it up on our snow day! What fun to spend an afternoon outdoors in our beautiful Citizen’s Park!

I will be gratefully donating my prize to a family in need at Hough Street School. Taking part in this contest was prize enough for me! Thank you! Patti
