218. Family Planting Day with the Barrington Area Conservation Trust

Help teach your kids how important it is to protect and preserve our open land with the first ever Family Planting Day hosted by the Barrington Area Conservation Trust this Saturday, September 21st.  They’ll reserve a plot of land just for your family to plant at Pedersen Preserve across from Barrington High School and all you have to bring are your gardening gloves and some helping hands from your own families.
Family Planting Day is happening from 1 to 3 p.m. this Saturday, September 21st.  You’ll find the Pedersen Preserve at Hart & Lake-Cook Roads across from BHS.
With a tax-deductible donation of $100, you will receive a planting area just for your family plus native plantings and supplies to help sustain the new vegetation as it takes root. You will also receive a plaque to decorate, marking your family’s plot and they will be taking photos of your families to give you, in thanks for your contribution.  The donation also includes a 1-year membership to the Barrington Area Conservation Trust so you can be a part of their ongoing efforts to preserve the open spaces and natural resources in and around Barrington.
Here’s the schedule of activities they have planned for Family Planting Day……

From the Community

“Perhaps the most hurtful impact of the stigma surrounding mental illness is the common belief that women with mental illness cannot be good mothers. In a society that values ‘self-sacrificing mothers’ and rewards adherence to gender norms, we often deem that a ‘good mother’ has few needs and challenges of her own; rather, she can commit herself in her entirety to her children.

Mental illness can certainly make some aspects of motherhood more challenging, but it doesn’t disqualify those of us living with a mental health condition from being good parents. In fact, research suggests that many issues faced by mothers with mental illness are generic to all parents. While mothers with mental illness may experience more unique challenges from their symptoms, or from medication and treatment obligations, these risks can be managed with the guidance of a good collaborative care team.”
