”“Clearly, high quality care requires great nurses as well as a high degree of collaboration between physicians and other caregivers,”” said Karen Lambert, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital President.  “Being recognized as a Magnet hospital is further validation of the excellent care being provided at Good Shepherd Hospital. Congratulations to the nurses of Good Shepherd and to the community of physicians, other caregivers, support staff and volunteers who are committed to delivering world class healthcare to the people we serve.””

Good Shepherd Hospital received Magnet status on December 16 after a rigorous, two-year evaluation process that included an extensive application, interviews and a three day, on-site survey by ANCC appraisers.

In order to qualify for Magnet status, Good Shepherd Hospital had to meet criteria in 14 different standards, including Quality of Nursing Leadership, Organizational Style, Quality of Care, Nurses as Teachers and Professional Development.

“”Each and every one of our associates excel in the delivery of excellent care to our community,”” said Marianne Araujo RN, PhD, Chief Nurse Executive at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. “”We are proud of our entire team of associates and their work.””

Magnet recognition is the highest distinction a hospital can receive for outstanding nursing care. Hospitals that achieve Magnet status are noteworthy for their quality, excellence and innovation in nursing, showing improved overall patient outcomes, shorter lengths of patient stay, higher rates of patient satisfaction and greater cost-efficiency.

““Good Shepherd truly provides a collaborative environment for all of us to practice and have the safest and best quality outcomes for our patients,”” said Thomas Meyer MD, President of the Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Medical Staff. “The outstanding nurses who have led this effort and our entire hospital team truly are to be commended for their accomplishments.”
