It’s Thursday and that means our Barrington Suburban Life newspapers arrive by mail today.  Have you received your copy yet?  Barrington Chef Carol Mackey is on the cover of this week’s paper cooking up some excitement for the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia.  She’s been busy demonstrating Russian cooking at the Garlands of Barrington.

Barrington mom braves rare disease
Melissa Palmer, mother of five, has been diagnosed with late-onset Pompe Disease – a rare, inherited disorder that disables the heart and skeletal muscles. Palmer is staying positive and energetic, thanks to her team of doctors at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. Read about the doctors’ plan in this week’s Barrington Suburban Life.

A relaxing treat for a cold day
Another Barrington mother, Jyoti Amin is letting her light shine in the community. Shelter in a box
ShelterBox, a non-profit sponsored by international service clubs, Rotaries, school and church groups, businesses and even individuals, aims to deliver boxes to disaster victims. ShelterBoxes are filled with enough survival items to last 24 hours – a lifesaver for many. Barrington Interact and Rotary members share their involvement in this week’s Barrington Suburban Life.

Russia mania
Just in time for the Winter Olympic Games, Barrington area chef Carol Mackey stopped by the Garlands living facility to demonstrate Russian cooking. This week’s Barrington Suburban Life gets up close with Mackey’s borscht, beef stroganoff and orange drop cookie demo – providing photos and an online recipe. “To your health,” Mackey salutes.
