Since Barrington 220 Superintendent Tom Leonard just called school off again Tuesday due to the extremely cold temperatures in our forecast, we’ve cooked up a new contest to help pass yet another day stuck indoors.  This one’s a video Sing-Along Contest inspired by Oscar “Best Song” nominee, Let it Go, from Disney’s hit movie Frozen.

Not only is Let it Go an Oscar “Best Song” contender, the Disney power ballad written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez was a Golden Globe nominee in the same category and now has about 60-million views on YouTube.

Ever since we took our 2, 4 and 5-year-old kids to see the movie in early January, we go to sleep and awake each day to them singing Let it Go. They shout the song out from every room of the house at every hour of the day.  (I can hear the lyrics from the room next door to me as I write this.)  It’s maddening, in a sweet and endearing way that’s starting to remind me of the movie Groundhog Day.

Apparently we’re not alone.  I hear that talented young singers around town have taken to belting out Let it Go all day long.  They’re grabbing makeshift mics and singing the song in homes all over Barrington, sharing some serious vocal skills in the process.

And we’re excited to introduce the debut contestant in our first-ever video sing-along contest at 365Barrington.com.  Here’s the Village of Barrington’s very own, super-talented 7-year-old Brittan Smith with her own rendition of Let it Go.  Take it away, Brittan…

We’re excited and hopeful to see more local renditions of Let it Go and we have prizes on the line.

The AMC South Barrington 30 movie theater has given us movie passes to give away and we’ll line up more prizes, depending on how many people enter the contest!

To enter, all you have to do is upload your own video or share your video’s YouTube link in the form below.  Individuals or groups in all ages, grades and abilities are welcome to enter our contest. Parents, that means you, too!

We’ll accept entries through this weekend and will either draw names or have winners selected by a special judge and announce those winners next Monday, February 3rd.  Good Luck!

For a little inspiration, here are more Let it Go renditions we spotted on the internet. And, if you haven’t seen the movie, by all means go check it out. But BE WARNED! If the songs get stuck in your head, your life might never be the same ;).
