Top chef
Barrington area fourth and fifth-graders compete in the second annual Sodexo Future Chef Challenge at Barrington High School. Barrington Suburban Life has all the photos as Sophia Denison of North Barrington Elementary clenches the gold with her “healthy sandwich.” Fourteen student chefs competed this year.

State of the Village
President Karen Darch delivered her State of the Village report at a board meeting Monday. Darch reports that Barrington is “sound and growing.” Read more as Darch discusses the village’s decision to split from the Barrington Countryside Fire District, build a grade separation at the Route 14 Canadian Railway, and a citizen questions board members about Hough and Main Street development.

Heroin prevalence
Barrington officials weigh in about drug usage in the area. Resource officer John McGowan weighs in from Barrington High School, while Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital emergency room Dr. Elizabeth Horvath speaks out on local overdose cases. Special agents Sean Lewakowski and Michael Goers address warning signs of adolescent heroin use.

Spring sports preview
