Friends, family and welcoming community members greet Barrington-born soldier Cody Gardanier Saturday as the 23-year-old U.S. Army specialist returned home to Wauconda. Check out the celebration photos where Warriors’ Watch Riders escorted the local hero about eight miles to an honorary gathering at the American Legion Post 911.

Barrington Swimmer Stronger than Ever
BHS sophomore Kirsten Jacobsen just returned from a National Club Swimming Association (NCSA) Meet in Orlanda, Fla., where she medaled in three final races. Jacobsen now qualifies for senior NCSA nationals after swimming a state-record one-mile time for her 16-year-old age group. Read Jacobsen’s “In Their Life” profile to learn what the young athlete’s life has been like since shattering state records in the Illinois High School Association Girls Swimming Finals this Past November.

School Board OKs Technology Plan
BHS students can look forward to Macbook Air computers this fall. Barrington 220 School Board President Brian Battle explains why board members voted 6-1 March 18 to move forward with digital learning, approving a new Apple computer lease and adopting a “one-to-word” technology initiative for the district. Younger students will receive personal laptops and tablets in coming years.

Prepare for Battle
Battle House laser combat facility, that is. A team and mission-oriented Lake Barrington laser combat center will open in June, offering patrons two-hour-long combat sessions and Blackhawk Down-type interactive battle scenarios. Lake Barrington Village Administrator Chris Martin said Battle House will offer an extraordinary experience for laser tag enthusiasts.
