It was a beautiful morning in downtown Barrington as local veterans gathered to lead our community’s Memorial Day parade and honor those who have lost their lives for our freedoms.
We loaded our kids in the wagon and walked to the center of town so they could watch the flag be raised at our Veterans’ Memorial before a parade with solemn and striking contrast to the candy that flies on the Fourth.
There’s nothing that unites our present with our past quite like gathering to recognize our veterans in honor of those who are no longer with us. We will forever be paying our respects, with the deepest gratitude.
Last year, I interviewed parade-goers and took photos along Dundee Road and at the Evergreen Cemetery ceremony. Here’s how Memorial Day started for us today as the parade kicked off at the Veterans’ Memorial on Cook & Main Streets. A simple ‘thank you’ seems much too understated, but thank you. Every day.
