If you’d like like to meet new people, make new friends and get involved with efforts to give back to the community, the Barrington Junior Women’s Club would love for you to consider joining the group! They’re hosting TWO new member events, including a coffee at 10:30 this Thursday, September 25th, and all are welcome.

If you can’t make this week’s coffee, prospective new BJWC members are welcome to the club’s first monthly meeting of the new season on Tuesday, October 7th. The BJWC hosts their new members meeting at the start of fall each year.

The guest speaker for this year’s new member meeting is Darby Hills of Barrington Children’s Charities who will talk about local efforts to support the Blessings in a Backpack initiative. The meeting will take place at Wok N Fire at the Arboretum of South Barrington at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7th.
The three ladies on BJWC’s membership committee are hosting tomorrow’s coffee at member Christy Origer’s home (716 Bark Court in Lake Barrington). It’ll be a great opportunity to learn more about this organization of women who are committed to enhancing the Barrington community through philanthropy and volunteerism.
For more background on the Barrington Junior Women’s Club, the membership committee put together a list of seven of their favorite ways to get social & give back with the BJWC…
1. Fall Fashion Show
Each year, BJWC hosts a Fall Fashion Show in November to raise funds to support our scholarships for Barrington High School Seniors, meals for the needy over the holidays, and grants to local charitable organizations.

2. Spring Fundraiser
In the Spring of each year, BJWC puts on another fundraiser to help fund our grants to local 501C3 organizations that support women, children, and families in need.
3. Scholarships
BJWC awards five scholarships to Barrington High School seniors. These scholarships are based on Community Service.
4. Holiday Giving
Barrington Giving Day is held each December and is sponsored by area churches, schools, businesses, and civic organizations. Local families in need receive food, used clothing and new and used toys. BJWC provides volunteers to purchase new toys, to sort donated toys, to help set up the evening prior to Giving Day, and to work on the actual Giving Day.
5. Community Service
BJWC members give their time to these community service organizations: Safety Town, Service to Seniors, Character Counts & Kids on the Block, Meals with Wheels, Sunny Hill Reading Volunteers, Good Shepherd Hospital, Journey Care, & WINGS.

6. Annual HOPE Dinner
Many of BJWC’s fun social events also contribute to the charitable organizations the group supports. BJWC members love gathering for their annual HOPE Dinner in December, which organizes gift giving for area families by donation of gift cards purchased by BJWC members (and non-members). This dinner is always held at a fun, local restaurant. It serves as the BJWC’s December meeting and is a great kick-off to the holiday season!
7. Social Time
Monthly meetings always start with social time. Before meetings begin, members spend time catching up and it’s a fun way to reconnect with friends and meet new ones before the meeting focused on the club’s latest efforts to give back to the community.
