For this week’s Menu Monday feature, we’re taking a quick trip to McGonigal’s in Barrington which features the best pub food on my block! We’ve loved living on the same street as this downtown Barrington hot spot, especially having moved here from a Chicago neighborhood spotted with colorful corner pubs. If you’re craving a frosty beer at the bar or or a plate of filling pub fare, McGonigal’s is the cure.
McGonigal’s menu is rich with traditional Irish pub entrees including Bangers and Mash, Pot Roast and Shepherd’s Pie. But one of the most popular items on the menu is McGonigal’s Fish and Chips. Prepared with crispy fried cod, the “chips” are served in a wrapper designed to look like a newspaper, just like you’d find them outside a Dublin pub. With a side of pub fries, house-made coleslaw and tartar sauce, McGonigal’s Fish and Chips are a filling and delicious fan favorite in Barrington.
