The new Jerri Hoffmann Child + Family Center, an early childhood education facility serving infants through kindergartners, will open its doors in Carpentersville this July. The $10 million center is located on a beautiful seven-acre campus, which will accommodate 230 children from Carpentersville and surrounding areas, including families within the Barrington 220 school district.

The new center is a project of Children’s Home + Aid, a child and family service agency founded in 1883 and headquartered in Chicago. The agency currently operates five early childhood education facilities across Illinois, four of which are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

The 27,000 square-foot center will replace the current Tom Thumb Child Care Center of Carpentersville, which has served at-risk children and families since the 1970s. Tom Thumb is currently the only subsidized early childhood education center in this high-need area, and the new Jerri Hoffmann Child + Family Center will more than double the capacity and add several new learning opportunities, including a leading edge curriculum promoting language, math and science literacy.

Jerri Hoffmann of Winnetka, who sits on the Board of Trustees of Children’s Home + Aid, and her family donated $1.2 million to partially fund the project. State and private funding provided another $5 million, and Children’s Home + Aid hopes to cover the remaining $3.8 million through private donations.
