240. BHS 2001 Alum Nick Sauer Announces Run for IL State Representative District 51

Lake Barrington resident, Barrington High School 2001 alum and Lake County Board Member Nick Sauer, a conservative Republican, announced his candidacy today for Illinois State Representative in District 51. Nick is running for the seat currently held by Ed Sullivan Jr. who recently announced he will not seek re-election in 2016.

Nick Sauer currently serves as a Lake County Board Member and Forest Preserve Commissioner, offering a valued perspective and unique skill set when it comes to governing. He is a solutions oriented conservative leader, with an approach that has gained him the respect of his colleagues and leaders across the region.

“Nick Sauer is a real leader and we have benefited from his strong voice and common sense approach on the Lake County Board. He will make a great State Representative for District 51” said, Aaron Lawlor, Chairman of the Lake County Board.

Earlier this year, Governor Bruce Rauner appointed Nick to serve as a Director on the Illinois Tollway Board. As a Tollway Director, Nick is helping manage a $1+ billion budget and working to expand economic development through improvements to the toll highway system.

State Representative Sullivan said, “I’m pleased and proud to endorse Nick Sauer to represent District 51. Based on his work on the Lake County Board and Barrington 220 Board of Education, I know that Nick will work to tackle the challenges before Illinois.”

Nick has a deep commitment to our county and communities. He grew up in the Barrington area, graduated from Barrington High School and, today, helps lead his family’s small business which specializes in the sales and marketing of American manufactured kitchen cabinets.

With a business focus and strong will to serve the public, Nick has worked to improve our local economy, business climate, transportation system and precious environment, all while maintaining Lake County’s balanced budget.

Prior to his service in Lake County government and on the Tollway Board, Nick was a member of the Barrington 220 Board of Education and also worked in the George W. Bush Administration at the Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C.

Nick is a member of Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, is the Chairman of the Cuba Township Republicans and is actively involved in the Lions Club, Chambers of Commerce, Royal Family Kids Camps for foster children and Citizens for Conservation. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Denver and is obtaining his masters degree from Northwestern University. Nick is also an alumnus of the Edgar Fellows Program at the University of Illinois.

Illinois House District 51 is in the northwest suburbs of Chicago and encompasses Barrington, Deer Park, Green Oaks, Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer, Lake Zurich, Libertyville, Long Grove, Mundelein, and Vernon Hills.
