A surprise guest showed up at Barrington’s Saint Anne Parish School during Wednesday morning’s all-school announcements. After an introduction by Principal Dawn Kapka, former Cubs player and current Cubs broadcaster, Todd Hollandsworth shared a special message with students from preschool through 8th grade.

Now I know why my kindergartner and first grader were so excited to get their homework done last night. Mr. Hollandsworth, a Saint Anne Parish School parent, shared parting words during yesterday’s address just hours before the Cubs’ wild card win against Pittsburgh’s Pirates.

“The Cubs have won 97 games this year and they are up for the challenge tonight… And one more thing. We have Jake Arrieta. Game time is at 7, so make sure you get that homework done, tell your parents ‘Go Cubbies!’ and that is all.”

Saint Anne Catholic Community Pastor, Father Bernie Pietrzak, is a huge Cubs fan and all Saint Anne students were invited to dress out of uniform Wednesday and instead wear their favorite Cubs gear to support the team. After last night’s 4-0 win, the Cubs’ first postseason victory in 12 years, they advance to face the Cardinals in the NL Division Series which begins in St. Louis at 5:45 Friday night.  Go Cubbies!
