With the help of art teacher Lori Weyburn, students at Prairie Middle School have hand painted eight rain barrels which they’re auctioning off to raise funds for Ndemu Elementary, a school they’re sponsoring in Kenya. Prairie partnered with the school through H2O for Life, an organization helping provide a clean water source, bathroom facilities and sanitation education to students at Ndemu.
Winning bidders in the online silent auction will own beautiful rain barrels with which they can recycle water and save our natural resources. Many hours of love have been devoted to each unique barrel. Support their efforts to make a difference in the world by placing your bid today. The auction ends on May 20, 2016 at 3:00 p.m.
Instructions to retrofit the drum in a way that fits the needs of a variety of homes are included with barrel. There are currently no taps, hoses, or holes in the barrel other than the two standard covered holes in the top of each. Barrels are heavy duty plastic 55 gallon drums donated by Midway Container in St. Paul, MN. The barrels have been lightly sanded, primed, painted and sealed with acrylic paint safe for exterior use.
- Minimum bid per barrel is $125.00
- Auction winners will be notified via phone or email on May 20
- Barrels can be picked up from the main office at Prairie the week of May 23 (Barrels are light enough to be carried by one person and fit in most back seats.)
- Payment should be made by check to H2O for Life
Please contact Kim Gordon at Kgordon@barrington220.org for questions. Prairie school is located in Barrington, IL. The barrels will not be shipped; please make sure someone can pick up the barrel if you win the auction!
