The Village of Lake Barrington issued an official proclamation on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, recognizing the entrepreneurial efforts of two of the village’s youngest philanthropists, Matthew and Blake Bergstrom. The brothers hosted a Memorial Day lemonade stand and donated the $80 they raised to Veterans of Lake Barrington Shores!
The boys set up their stand on the 16th tee of the Lake Barrington Shores Golf Club. The sign on their stand indicated the lemonade was “FREE,” but that donations would be appreciated and all proceeds would be given to the Veterans of Lake Barrington Shores. The boys raised over $80 for the Veteran’s organization!
When asked by Mayor Richardson what inspired this charitable act, Matthew explained that he was inspired to open a lemonade stand by the book, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.” Then, when he realized that it was Memorial Day, Matthew and his little brother, Blake, decided to donate the proceeds to the Veterans of Lake Barrington Shores.
Here’s an excerpt from the Village of Lake Barrington’s official proclamation:
“Whereas, Blake Bergstrom along with his brother Mathew Bergstrom did secure donations of eighty dollars ($80); and Whereas, those donations were turned over and greatly appreciated by the Veterans of Lake Barrington Shores; and Whereas, the Village Board greatly appreciates the spirit and action of Blake Bergstrom, and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Lake Barrington, Lake County, Illinois, that the Village of Lake Barrington honors and recognizes Blake Bergstrom.”
Way to go, Bergstrom brothers! With the whole summer season ahead, we’ll be watching for your next lemonade stand!
