Village of Barrington Lights New Christmas Tree, Welcomes Santa’s Return

Crowds of excited kids gathered with their families to welcome Santa back to town after a day filled with “Snow Much Fun” at shops around the Village of Barrington Saturday. St. Nick rode in on a firetruck at about 5 p.m., just after the lighting of Barrington’s brand new Christmas tree at Cook & Main Streets.

On behalf of the Village of Barrington, long time local residents Steve & Beth Raseman lit the community’s new holiday tree, which was planted to replace the old and dying one this fall. The new tree is a nearly 30-foot Colorado Blue Spruce courtesy of Gro Horticulture. The Village hired a company to professionally light this year’s tree. Here’s a look at the old & new trees, side-by-side. Quite an improvement, don’t you think?

It looks like the new tree may have sparked a new tradition. We saw so many families taking their photo in front of the lights this year. Still need a photo for your family’s Christmas card? Head down to the tree at Cook & Main Streets after dusk for a festive backdrop. The tree looks even more beautiful after Sunday’s first snowfall! Check out this lucky dad who was gifted with the balloon man’s holiday hat as the festivities came to a close…

I snuck inside the Santa house to capture a few photos of children sharing their wish lists with Saint Nick. Love seeing the excitement on these sweet little faces.

With Santa visits, carriage rides and the Barrington Madrigals caroling around town, you could feel the magic in the air. But the kids weren’t the only ones having a blast. Check out the Christmas sweaters on this crew I found right out front of McGonigal’s Pub.

If you missed Saturday’s Village of Barrington events around town, you’re not too late to experience that festive feeling. Local merchants are rolling out the red carpet with holiday decor, deals and so many great gift items all month long.
