The Barrington Junior Women’s Club (BJWC) is getting ready to celebrate the 20th year of Safety Town as they announce registration dates and details for the new season! Held in a miniature layout of a real town, Safety Town is an educational opportunity for children to learn all types of safety lessons. In 19 years, over eleven-thousand children have participated as Safety Town campers, and many of those campers have come back to the program as volunteers.

Children who are entering kindergarten or first grade and have not previously participated in the program are eligible. Eligibility is limited to children turning five years old by September 1, 2017.

“Safety Town is a great affordable summer camp for kindergarten and first graders. It allows them to gain knowledge in several safety aspects while simulating road safety on our outdoor site. We teach other topics as well such as poison safety, stranger danger, animal safety, train safety, and toy and park safety. Campers will also learn their phone numbers and addresses in case of an emergency. I truly enjoy spending my summer directing a camp that teaches such important topics.” Kristin Magee, BJWC Safety Town Camp Director

Four Safety Town sessions are offered in 2017:

  • Session 1 June 12- 23 9:00am-11:30am (M-F)
  • Session 2 June 12- 22 12:30pm- 3:00pm (M-F)
  • Session 3 July 10- 21 9:00am- 11:30am (M-F)
  • Session 4 July 10- 21 12:30pm- 3:00pm (M-F)

Any student who is registered for seventh through 12th grade for the 2017-2018 school year, is eligible to become a 2017 Safety Town volunteer.

Online registration for Safety Town 2017 campers and volunteers begins Monday, April 17, 2017, at BJWC.org. The enrollment fee for the program is $127.50 per participant and there is no enrollment fee for volunteers. Scholarships are available based on financial need.
