Barrington Park District Director, Terry Jennings announced Thursday that the park board has made the difficult decision to close the community’s Aqualusion pool for the 2020 season. In a video statement published on the park district’s Facebook page, Terry shared news of the pool’s closure the same day Governor Pritzker announced the extension of Illinois’ stay-at-home order through May 30th due to coronavirus. Though the pool will be closed, Terry says they’re still considering options for safely opening the the Splash Pad.

Here’s a transcript of Terry’s statement followed by the video below.

“Hi I’m Terry Jennings, the Director at the Barrington Park District, and I hope you and your family are doing well during this pandemic outbreak. I wanted to announce a decision that was made regarding the Aqualusion swimming pool here at Langendorf Park.

At the April 20th park board meeting the park board had much discussion regarding the safety concerns of opening the pool this summer. The safety of our patrons, the safety of our children and the safety of our staff was of great concern.

We normally bring in hundreds and hundreds of people through this facility coming through the lobby, into the locker rooms, using the bathrooms and going out to the pool. And because of the safety concerns, the park board closed the pool for the summer of 2020.

The Splash Pad however, which is adjacent to our pool, is under consideration. We are working out how we can run that facility on a safe and social distancing guideline. So watch for Facebook and our website on the Splash Pad potentially being open for the summer.

Again, I am sorry to announce that the aquatic facility at Langendorf Park is closed for the summer of 2020. Thank you and be well.”

Terry says refunds will be processed for those who already purchased their pool passes for the 2020 season.

The Barrington Park District also announced via their website that all indoor facilities, including the F&RC Fitness Center will be CLOSED and all PROGRAMS are CANCELLED through May 30.

All playgrounds, basketball courts, tennis courts, outdoor restrooms, garden plots, golf course and the skatepark are CLOSED as a directive from the Governor.

They ask that we please CLICK HERE for the most up-to-date information on our facilities, programs and special events in response to COVID-19.
