Welcome to This Day in Barrington History
Welcome to January 29th and Day 29 of 365 in Barrington, Illinois! You’ll find our stories of the day – past, present & future (events) – right here on today’s DailyPage.
Because every day has its own rhythm, we’re sharing a song of the day here at 365Barrington.com.
On this day, January 28th in 1962, Peter, Paul and Mary signed their first recording contract with with Warner Bros.—the label they still call home nearly half a century later. The group is credited for helping popularize Bob Dylan’s folk songs such as “Blowing in the Wind”, Peter Paul & Mary’s biggest hit released in 1963. In January of 1963, the group released “Puff the Magic Dragon”, based on a 1959 poem about a dragon by American author, filmmaker, lyricist and inventor, Leonard “Lenny” Lipton, at age 19.
By the way, do you know someone who has a birthday today? Add their name in the comments box below and we’ll give them a 365Barrington birthday shoutout!
